Since 2011, the Hannibal Board of Public Works has partnered with the Missouri Department of Transportation and the Adopt-A-Highway Program in an effort to make highways around Hannibal a cleaner, more beautiful place to travel.

Twice a year, the HBPW employees volunteer to walk the 4-mile round trip section of adopted highway to pick-up litter.  This usually requires about 20 volunteers and takes approximately 4 hours to complete.  There are always lots of laughs and entertaining stories as everyone is cleaning, however, making it a very enjoyable time for all!
