PUW 2013

2013 hosted the 3rd Annual Public Utilities Week for the HBPW.  Below is a description of events throughout the week.

Wastewater and Water Treatment Plant Tours

To kick-off the week long event, the HBPW hosted two tours of the Wastewater and Water Treatment Plants.  The tour began at the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) where Jeff Williams, Wastewater Plant Operator, led the hour-long tour.  Guests where then shuttled to the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) where they were treated to lunch before starting the second leg of their guided tour led by Mathew Munzlinger, the Utility Planning & Construction Engineer.

"BPW Gives Back to our Veterans" Day

A new addition to the 2013 PUW, the HBPW dedicated Monday, October 7, 2013 as a "BPW Gives Back to our Veterans Day". Nominations where submitted by those that knew a U.S. Veteran who could use some help around their home.  A team of BPW personnel was available the entire day to help the winning Veteran complete small projects such as yard work, small home repairs and general maintenance.

BPW Community Day – Clean Up of Old Baptist Cemetery

Due to the terrible storm that Hannibal experienced in May 2013, several historical sites around town were left terribly damaged.  The HBPW was honored to help restore the Old Baptist Cemetery to its pre-storm condition.  This project took two days of intense work and resources to remove tree debris, clear walking trails, and restore headstones to their upright position.

Family Fun Night

Family Fun Night is the largest event during Public Utilities Week.  The HBPW saw approximately 1300 in attendance during Thursday evening’s festivities.  Loaded with activities like drawings, give-a-ways, food, games, bounce houses, and bucket truck rides, this event is usually the favorite among volunteers and guests!

The week wrapped up on Friday where the general public was invited to the HBPW Main Office on Industrial Loop Drive for coffee and cookies!
