Damage Claims Process

The Hannibal Board of Public Works (HBPW) is a member of the Missouri Intergovernmental Risk Management Association (MIRMA), a self-insurance risk pool comprised of member municipalities throughout Missouri.  MIRMA receives and reviews all claims concerning property damage or injury.  Claims are then forwarded to the insurance pool’s third-party administrator, Corporate Claims Management, Inc. (CCMI).  CCMI personnel are responsible for claims investigation.    All decisions concerning liability assessment and claims payment are determined by MIRMA.

The process by which all liability claims are handled is as follows:

1.  Claims are reported to the Hannibal Board of Public Works by contacting the Board’s MIRMA representative.

2.  Necessary claim and investigative forms are completed by the MIRMA representative and forwarded to MIRMA staff for evaluation.

3.  MIRMA reviews claim submissions and forwards appropriate claims to CCMI personnel for processing and investigation.

4.  CCMI staff review the claims, assign claims adjusters, and investigate the circumstances of the claims.

5.  MIRMA then makes a determination as to any liability on the part of the HBPW, and approves and processes any payments to the claimant if warranted.
