Presentation for Local Schools on Electrical Safety
The Hannibal Board of Public Works is happy to provide schools with a selection of educational materials about electricity, electrical safety, and energy conservation. HBPW staff members have access to "Hazard Hamlet ", an interactive electrical display.
This display demonstrates electrical safety hazards commonly encountered in everyday life. This presentation grabs students' attention with the arcing and sparking sound of the display.
This program is designed to help students understand the properties of electrical current and the potential dangers associated with carelessness around electricity.
Student activity booklets are left with the teacher to promote classroom discussion and reinforce safety lessons taught during this presentation.
Other specific items covered during the presentation are:
- Cutting down or climbing trees near power lines
- Flying kites around power lines
- Using ladders or working around power lines
- Using electricity near water
- Plugging in appliances into electrical outlets
